| 内容記述 | The coastal region of the Tohoku Area is usually coverd with warm coastal water (the Tsugaru Warm Water or warm water originating from the Kuroshio), so the temperature of the upper water is usually above approximately 7℃ throughout all seasons. However, in early spring, it occasionally happens that the near surface temperature suddenly dereases to below 2 or 3℃ and persists for more than one month. This phenomenon occurs at time intervals of several years and is known to be associated with the interannual variations of the Oyashio. Because of its great influence on coastal fisheries and the important implications on the Oyashio variability, many oceanographers have investigated this phenomenon. However, the detailed processes of the generation of this phenomenon have not yet been clarified because of the scarcity of systematic data. In 1984 this phenomenon occurred and fortunately sufficient data to reveal the southward spreading processes of the Oyashio Water were obtained. This paper describes some specific features of the intrusion of the Oyashio Water into the coastal region of the Tohoku Area on the basis of these data. It is showm that the generation of extremely low temperature in the coastal region of the Tohoku Area is due to the outflow of a great amount of ice-melt water from the Okhotsk Sea. | |||||||
