内容記述 | As a preliminary study on the feasibility to estimate the primary production off the Tohoku region, photosynthesis-irradiance (P-I) curves were estimated using the oxygen light and dark bottle method with five levels of light intensity in an on-deck tank. Measurements were taken at 47 CTD stations mainly in the area 35°-41°N, 141˚-146°E, during 10 cruises from March 1990 to January 1995. The dissolved oxygen determinations were made by a microprocessor-controlled photometric Winkler titration. The chlorophyll-a specific parameters of a P-I curve were determined by a Simplex fitting into a three-parameter model. The initial slopes αB varied markedly before the spring bloom of phytoplankton and then decreased. Photoinhibition βB was not clear while light-saturation might be dominant. Maximum photosynthetic rates Pmax showed seasonal variations corresponding to chlorophyll-a concentrations. The empirical relationships between chlorophyll-a concentrations and Pmax were significant in the four different waters: Kuroshio, warmer and colder waters of the transition area, and Oyashio. Chlorophyll-a specific maximum photosynthetic rates PmaxB of 2.8-15.7 mgC/mgchl/hr were slightly higher than values of 3-10 mgC/mgchl/hr reported generally for the open ocean, suggesting that such high rates might originate from the high productivity of these waters. | |||||||||||
