内容記述 | It is useful for us to estimate the biomass of squid (Todarodes pacificus) in fishing grounds by acoustic survey. The target strength (TS) of squid is required for estimating its biomass acoustically. Some values of TS have been reported by previous studies for dead and for live squid. However, these TS values seem not to be reliable for the estimation of squid biomass. Because, there is a possibility that the sound-characteristic of the body of dead squid are different from the live squid and that the values of live squid of previous study were underestimated due to the intense movement of the body tilt angle during the measurements. The experiments to measure TS were made on live squids with a split-beam echo sounder at 38 kHz. The body tilt angles of the live squids were controlled horizontally to imitate the swimming posture with nylon line and steel bars. Oobservation values for 4 squids were obtained. The dorsal mantle length (ML) and observed TS were as follows, ML 20.4 cm : TS -46.7 dB, 22.3 cm: -47.9 dB, 26.2 cm : -44.8 dB, 28.4 cm : -44.7 dB. The TScm (normalized target strength) of squid at 38 kHz was determined at -73.7 dB from these values. In this study, a method for the measurement of live squid TS is shown. It is necessary to carry out measurements on more specimens by this method in order to contribute to the improvement of the reliability of TS values. | |||||||
