内容記述 Anatomical observation on the rete mirabile of young bluefin tuna (fork length, 20-38 cm) was conducted by using casting method with Neoplene Latex 601A or Mercox. Two sets of cutaneous arteries and veins run at the region from 31%FL to 81%FL (percent of fork length from the snout) along the side of fish, and run dorsally and ventrally between the skin and the muscle. Each cutaneous vessel gives off two continuous rows of small vessels. These vessels branch and form rete of interspersed arteries and veins running into the body. The rete emerged from dorsal cutaneous vessels runs along the dorsal margin of red muscle as one vascular sheet. The rete emerged from ventral cutaneous vessel is divided into two vascular sheets on the way, and run along the ventral margin and the lateral midplane of red muscle, individually. Many branches from dorsal aorta anostomose with arteries of rete. Therefore, it is anatomically clear that there are two routes for arterial blood flow into the rete. One is the route through cutaneous artery, and the other is the route through dorsal aorta. It is considered that the former contributes to heat conservation, and the latter acts on decreasing the muscle temperature. Consequently, it is appeared that thermoregulation of muscle can be achieved by relative regulation of arterial blood flow into the rete through the two routes. The number of rete vessels is varied at the different positions in the body. The number of vessels was the largest at the positions of 38%FL and 47%FL of the body, and at the same positions, the number of rete was larger in ventral rete than in dorsal rete.
