| 内容記述 | Effective selection response has been observed in the third generation of the Japanese pearl oyster Pinctada fucata martensii selected for white nacre of shells. The frequency of the shells with white nacre has increased to 80% in the third generaion from 20% in the base population. The shells with yellow nacre were heavier than the white ones in every line from first to third generation with few exceptions. These results coincide with the former observations on the pearls produced from the pearl oysters of second generation in which the yellow pearls were heavier than white ones. Although the color of the prismatic layer of parents was not white, about thirty per cent of offsprings in the third generation selected for white nacre had white prismatic layer. These results were discussed with respect to improving quality of cultured pearls. | |||||||
