内容記述 Occurrence and partial characterization of hemagglutinin activities in the pearl oyster, Pinctada fucata martensii, hemolymph were investigated. Comparison of natural hemagglutinin activities against various kinds of erythrocytes (Table 1) revealed a high level of activity against equine red blood cells (ERBC) (mean log2 titer: 11.3) and a lower but considerable activity against sheep red blood cells (SRBC) (mean log2 titer: 6.0). No activities, however, were detected when four different types (A, B, AB and O) of human red blood cells (HRBC) were used as the indicator cells for the agglutinin test (Table 2). Changes in the hemagglutinin titer (indicator cell: 1% SRBC) of pearl oyster hemolymph during the cold (4℃) and freezing (-18℃) storage indicated that the agglutinin activity is not so stable at low temperatures (Figs. 1 and 2). Heat stability of hemagglutinin activity in vitro was also investigated and compared with the previous results of the Japanese scallop, Patinopecten yessoensis (Mori et al. 1980a). It was much higher than that of agglutinin activity in the scallop (Fig. 3). The natural agglutinin activities against 1% SRBC were measured over a pH range of 4.0 to 9.0 by using 0.05 M Tris-NaCl buffer solution (Fig. 4). The maximum activity was obtained at the pH around 6.0. The agglutinin titers at the pH around 4.0 were not able to be determined owing to an intense hemolysis of indicator cells. The results of adsorption test (Table 3) and the relationship between the agglutinin activities against ERBC and SRBC (Fig. 5) indicate the presence of the cross-reaction between SRBC and ERBC in the hemolymph of the pearl oyster, suggesting that there are the antigen(s) which are common to SRBC and ERBC.
