内容記述 The chlorophyll a and phaeo-pigments contents of bottom sea water at high tide, sediment and surface mud were determined to elucidate the environment for food sources of the short necked clam Ruditapes philippinarum (Adams et Reeve) at the Kikuchi river estuary. The particle of sea water just above the bottom, sediment and surface mud were divided into the sizes, >300, 100-300, 50- 100, 10-50 and 1.2-10 μm with various mesh sizes plankton net. And in each fractionated particle, the dry weight and pigment contents (chlorophyll a+ phaeo-pigments) were measured. Pigment contents of bottom sea water, sediment and surface mud were ranged 2.5-6.3 μg/1, 135-484 and 5.8-20.1 μg/g dry weight, respectively. The rate of pigment contents included in the fine particles (1.2-10 μm) of the bottom sea water and sediment were ranged 52-65% and 29-65%, respectively. Digestive diverticula of the short necked clam contained pigments with the range of 12-40 μg/animal, and major component of the pigments was phaeo-pigments. The distribution pattern of pigments in fractionated particles of the sediment resembled the one of the surface mud. These results suggested that the sediment particles were provided as re-suspended particles originated from the bottom-deposited sediment by tidal current and ocean waves. And these resuspended particles and bottom-deposited sediment played an important role as food for short necked clam.
