| 内容記述 | Relation bewteen distribution of sandy beach bivalves and physical and environmental factors was studied on both levels, namely, laboratory experiments and field surveys. The results obtained the following: (1) High density distribution of Meretrix lamarckii and Gomphina melanaegis was observed at an accumulated area with less than a 7% mud ratio in sandy beach facing to the open sea. (2) Regarding observations at the reseach pier in Kashima-nada, the highest and lowest water temperature were ca. 10° C in February and ca. 25° C in August, respectively. Wave height tended to be higher in winter. Sand bars and troughs frequently appeared there, and the standard deviation of the daily changes of the profile was ca. 20cm/day. Distribution of M. lamarckii and G. melanaegis depended on the topography of the beach. M. lamarckii was distributed on the offshore side of the bar, G. melanaegis was distributed on the trough and on the inshore side of the bar. Especially, less than 30mm in shell length of G. melanaegis was greatly distributed in the troughs. (3) Survival of young M. lamarckii was not influenced at a mud ratio of less than 60% in the still bottom condition. According to the ethological experiments, the burrowing ratio of M. lamarckii has abruptly decreased in a mud ratio of more than 10% and a sediment particle size of less than 53 µm. Most of the young M. lamarckii survived for 20 days under a turbulent condition. However, the survival rate in the silt suspension rapidly decreased. (4) Burrowing rate of M. lamarckii was ca. 1.5 mm/sec in 20 mm of shell length at 25° C, and that of G. melanaegis was 0.7-0.8 mm/sec. Although the former rapidly decreased at low temperatures, the decrease in the latter was slight. Referring to the results of burrowing rate of other species, shell forms and life habits of Tivela mactroide and Mesodesma arctum, which are distributed in north and middle America, were similar to M. lamarckii and G. melanaegis, respectively. (5) Specific gravities of M. lamarckii and G. melanaegis were 1.56-1.70, 1.70-1.85, respectively. It was considered that the survival of these bivalves was influenced by the silt-clay components and their transportation was influenced by the driving force by waves. | |||||
