内容記述 | Water quality is continuously deteriorating in closed sea regions used as an aquaculture ground. As a remedial measure, dredging muddy materials (soft bottom sediment) abundant with pollutants and nutrients deposited on the sea bottom and their removal out of the system are effective. However, dumping them in the outer sea would be impossible from the viewpoints of regulation as well as environmental conservation. Hence, the authors caked the soft bottom sediment with a caking agent and planted eel grass seeds to devise a recycling technique whereby the seeds germinated in the caked structure and the grass extended out of the structure to grow to an ell grass population. In other words, the technique allowed the caked soft bottom sediment to be recycled as a substrate for eel grass adhesion. A validation test toward practical use in a real sea region demonstrated that the caked structure could be utilized as a substrate for eel grass adhesion. The authors also found the properties of soft bottom sediment applicable to caking, suitable sea conditions, appropriate mixing ratios of the caking agent, and the proper depth for burying the seeds. They also touched on maintenance methods to be practiced until constructed ell grass beds are stabilized. | |||||||||||
