| 内容記述 | Due to the eruptions of Mt. Oyama in Miyake Island from July 2000, accumulation of enormous amount of volcanic ashes was observed on the sea bottom around the island. Since it was not understood clearly how marine benthic animals behave against suspended ashes and how accumulated ashes affect the animals, we examined the effects of volcanic ashes on the small abalone, Haliotis diversicolor diversicolor, under short term culture conditions. When 150-250 g/L of ashes were added to beakers containing abalones, most of the animals immediately began to crowl upward. Some of them detached from the beaker wall and dropped onto the accumulated ashes （about 14 to 22 mm thick）, and more than one-third of animals died within 48 hours. Anatomical and microscopic observations of the dead abalones showed that the mantle cavity and the gaps between gill lamellae were filled with ash particles. These results indicate that the abalone avoids suspended ashes, and accumulation of which is leathal to the animals. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| 内容記述 | 三宅島雄山の噴火に伴う海域への降灰が水産生物に及ぼす影響を調べるため，火山灰がフクトコブシHaliotis diversicolor diversicolor の行動と生残に及ぼす影響を飼育条件下で調べた。その結果，フクトコブシを入れたビーカーに直接火山灰を投入した場合は，ほとんどの個体が上方への回避をみせた。幾つかの個体はビーカー内側面から剥離し堆積した灰の中に落ち，150 g/L（堆積灰厚約14mm）以上の火山灰の投入により1/3以上の個体が48時間以内に死亡した。死んだ個体の外套腔や鰓には火山灰粒子が蓄積していた。 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
